Religious Services
Our Rabbi
Our spiritual leader is Rabbi Jacob Rosner who joined Or Shalom on August 1, 2010.
Whether reading a bedtime story at the recent PajamaRama or delivering a whimsical sermon, Rabbi Rosner is a skilled communicator.
He delights in teaching all ages -- children, teens and adults. Rabbi Rosner brings a unique mix of influences ranging from a Hassidic upbringing to active involvement in the Havurah/ Renewal Movement.
A native New Yorker, the Rabbi most recently served the congregations of Temple Israel of Manchester, New Hampshire (1998-2005) and Temple Emanuel of Virginia Beach (2005-2008).
Service Schedule
Shabbat Services begin every Friday at 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday at 9:30
a.m. Our services are egalitarian, and participatory (Congregation members
chant Torah and Haftorah, as well as leading the services).
The Rabbi conducts
a weekly Torah Discussion focusing on the week's portion. We have a monthly
Friday night Family Service.
Note: During the school year, we offer babysitting on most Saturday mornings,
for children 18 months through 6 years.
Junior Congregation
Junior Congregation is conducted twice a month from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon. See
our calendar for specific dates and times.
Alef through Dalet students lead portions of one or more Shabbat Junior
Congregation services during the school year. Additionally, each class is
assigned a Shabbat morning to present a d’var torah or a parasha play.
Gan, Mechina and Prozdor students are invited and encouraged to attend Junior
Congregation.regation.
Bar/Bat Mitzvah
Weekday Minyanim
A minyan is held every Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m., whenever the religious school is
in session. It is attended by the children from the upper grades of our school. hool.
A minyan is also held every Tuesday evening at 5:45 p.m., whenever the religious
school is in session. Again, it is attended by the children from the upper
grades of our school.
Parents and other are invited to attend these services, to perform a mitzvah by
helping to form a minyan for anyone who is saying Kaddish.
Ritual Committee
The Ritual Committee is lead by our Rabbi. It determines the "Minhag" or ritual customs of the synagogue. It meets periodically to address issues and concerns of our diverse membership. We usually take a liberal position but one which does not conflict with the "Responsa" or the Rabbinical Assembly's Committee of Law and Standards.
