Congregation Or Shalom’s Sisterhood Mission is to bring the women of our synagogue together to support our community, serve our synagogue, and enrich our lives through social events, educational and spiritual programs, fundraising, and community service.  Sisterhood is affiliated with The Women’s League for Conservative Judaism in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

In the Fall, we begin the season with our Sisterhood Opening Dinner.  This is often a pot-luck at a member’s home or an educational speaker at a restaurant (parve or dairy food).  We are in charge of the Gift Shop, Shalach Manot at Purim (our biggest fund raiser), and kiddush and onegs on Shabbat.  We also host the annual Or Shalom Chanukah dinner.  For fun, we hold Happy Hours (men welcome), Book Club, and various outings.  In the Spring, we hold a women-run Sisterhood Shabbat.  We end the season with our Closing Dinner in June. All women are invited to attend our events.

Please join us at any of our events, as listed in Horizons.  If you have any questions or suggestions for events, please contact me through the office.

Register Now for The Book of V: A Reading & Conversation with Anna Solomon and Sivan Rotholz on Zoom, Wed Feb 17, 2021

Buy tickets for The Book of V: A Reading & Conversation with Anna Solomon and Sivan Rotholz on Zoom, Wed Feb 17, 2021 – Just in time for Purim, join Ritualwell for a book talk with Anna Solomon on The Book of V, her third novel, a creative retelling of the story of Esther and Vashti, woven with the stories of contemporary women. The New York Times describes The Book of V, as “engrossing, highly readable, darkly sexy.” Publisher’s Weekly gave it a starred review: “Fresh and tantalizing, with fascinating intergenerational discussions about desire, duty, family, and feminism, as well as a surprising, completely believable twist. This frank, revisionist romp through a Bible tale is a winner.” Anna Solomon will be joined in conversation with Sivan Rotholz. This event is free and open to all. Registration is required. Anna Solomon is the author of three novels—The Book of V., Leaving Lucy Pear, and The Little Bride—and a two-time winner of the Pushcart Prize. Her short fiction, essays, and review
